Deep Stretch is Coming

Lotus: can you do it?

We all have that area of our body which we would like to open up, go deeper and reach the next level of our practice, but what are we willing to do to get there?

When I see people sitting in lotus with their legs crossed on top of each other, I wonder: Is that natural, will I ever be that flexible? You would think those who sit in lotus must be relaxed, after all it’s not supposed to hurt - it’s a meditation posture!

So lately before sleep I will lie on my back with my legs crossed allowing my hips to slowly open. As you can imagine after about 5 mins this gets quite uncomfortable; I do my best to control my breathing - long slow counts I tell myself before my hips scream at me, “enough, just go to sleep you weirdo”.

While searching for inspiration, I found a very funny article written by Saiko Flack. If you thought you had it tough in class - check this out: “Deep Stretch is Coming“.

It may just give you the motivation to hold your asana just that little bit… l o n g e r

Sponsors Acknowledged

Heidi, my web guru has tweaked the site to include a sponsorship page: proudly acknowledging the support I could only dream about a few months ago. Top right in white if you’re looking for it.

To the Bikram Yoga Studios:

Your enthusiasm for my journey, 30 day Yoga passes and offers to help me find accommodation, is received with excitement and many thanks! You inspire me with renewed determination.

It feels real now and I keep check on my nerves and fears; the most prevalent surfacing during practice, when I’m gasping for air between standing bow and balancing stick - “what the hell am I getting myself into?!”

It’s ok, just Breathe!

First month locked in!

A big thank you goes out to Roxanne Giles, director of Bikram Yoga Maroochydore who has sponsored my first 30 day challenge!

As I begin contacting studios around the world to lock in my destinations, it’s a great feeling knowing my home studio on the Sunshine Coast is supporting me from the word go by providing my first month of yoga on the house!

When I started planning my 12 destinations about 2 years ago, hunching over a world map, excitedly attaching little post-it notes representing each studio, I realised what a tortuous process this was going to be.

There are so many studios around the world to choose from - some countries have studios with just a few blocks separating them, others have only one! And yet there are loads of countries still without any.

Whittling down the long list of countries to a diverse cross section, I realised I had to include Australia. Not just to showcase my country but also my home studio, as a way of saying thank you to Roxanne and all the instructors at Maroochydore, since that’s where the inspiration for this journey began.
