Bikram Seminar - what a day!

um... surfing camel pose?

With his shiny suit, glittering tie and diamond encrusted watch “I can’t see the time, too many diamonds!” he strolled onto the stage to a standing ovation.

I was a little worried I wouldn’t like Bikram. What if I thought he was an arrogant, self absorbed guru and if so, how that would affect my trip? It wasn’t to be the case thankfully, in fact it would be quite hard not to like the guy. He’s definitely a character, and the seminar gave me insight into Bikram and his philosophy and I can safely say, the trip is still on.

With a promise to his guru before leaving India that he would continue his guru’s work, Bikram’s only regret was that he didn’t ask how long for! He has since dedicated his life to yoga and having creating the Bikram Beginning Yoga Class he could have walked away, job done. He now travels the world giving seminars, posture clinics and classes, not to make sure we’re practising the postures perfectly but that if we listen to the teacher’s dialogue and perform the pose to the best we can do, we’ll be getting 100% of the benefits. Nice to know when your practising Cobra pose but feel more like a axolotl.

The posture clinic was awesome with a show of a selection of advanced postures by four very flexible teachers. This was very humbling, and for a moment I was wondering what I was even doing here, whether I should close this website down and cancel my trip. But it just gave me something to aim for and after a year of practice every day, you just never know…

My friend Allie, teacher at Lane Cove was urging me to get up on stage for some posture wisdom from the man. It would have been a great photo opportunity but I was a little too chicken.

Check out my T-shirt, the first endlessbender.com merchandise, on sale soon!

More pics to come…

Have mat will travel

I flew out from the Sunny Coast on Wed arvo to the slightly colder climes of Sydney for the Bikram shindig that’s coming to town.

Bikram’s one-day seminar is being held at Darling Harbour this Saturday with an audience of 600. With a 3hr lecture from Bikram, a 6hr posture clinic followed by the Bikram Beginning Yoga Class we’re about to get seriously bent.

I also had to shop for some new tracky pants as the green ones I brought with me are not allowed at his seminar. It’s actually stated on the Bikram Seminar Info Sheet: “NO GREEN. No green towels, no green mats, no green clothes. Please do not bring anything green to the seminar”.

I’ll try and get to the bottom of this bizarre request. Lucky I didn’t go with a green theme for the website.

Up and Running

Well here we go cats, we’re finally up and running thanks to my strong back end. What I mean is my tech savvy siblings are on the case, having designed and built this site. With the design sorted by my sister and looking quite shexy, Heidi announced she had more important things to worry about! Due to drop her first leprechaun (the nerve, I tell you) I had to turn to my bro to finish the masterpiece.

I had to ply Ian with a line of credit to launch his website and artwork into the surf art scene. Check it out at artwork online. With a bunch of lino prints sold he was able to focus on building the second website in as many weeks - mine! With $2.50 bottles of red to find inspiration he’s worked some solid nights to get things on the boil.

Hmm is that why the site turned out red?!

With my trusty mac, a bowl of peanuts and a new playlist on the iPod, I spent the day writing content for the site.
